Sciatica can be caused by many different things. Sometimes there is something wrong with on the discs in the spine. Other times, there may be some other spinal condition that is causing it. However, many times, tight muscles can cause sciatica.
There is a condition that's called "nerve entrapment". This is caused by tight muscles "trapping" the nerve in place and compressing it. When this happens you can get sciatica type symptoms associated with it.
The 3 muscles that are typically involved are the Hamstrings, the Gluteus Maximus, and the Piriformis muscles. All of them are located in the hip area. Naturally the hamstrings extend down the leg also.
Stretching these three muscles when you have sciatica symptoms should give some relief.
